What OMAI is, and who it is for

OMAI answers your customers on your own business WhatsApp number, using the business information you give it, and collects every conversation in one shared inbox for your team.

None to read. Setting OMAI up needs Owner or Admin.

Before you start

  • A business phone number for WhatsApp
  • A Meta account with admin rights over that business

OMAI is an AI assistant for your business WhatsApp number. Customers write to the number they already have for you. OMAI receives the message, works out what your business would answer from the information you gave it, and replies in the customer’s language — in Hebrew or in English. Every message, in both directions, lands in a shared inbox your team can read and take over at any point.

It runs on Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform (Cloud API). Your customers see an ordinary WhatsApp conversation with your business: no app to install, no widget, no separate chat window.

What OMAI does, end to end

  • A customer sends a WhatsApp message to your business number.
  • Meta delivers that message to OMAI, which matches it to your organization and to the right conversation.
  • The assistant checks whether it should answer at all — whether a person has taken the conversation over, whether your plan still has included answers left, and several other conditions.
  • It looks through your business information — services and prices, FAQs, policies, opening hours and any documents you uploaded — for the parts that fit the question.
  • It writes a short reply in the customer’s language and sends it from your business number.
  • The whole thread sits in Conversations, where your team can reply by hand, pause the assistant for that conversation, or take it over completely.

The problem it addresses

Most small businesses in Israel already sell on WhatsApp, and most of the traffic is the same handful of questions: what do you charge, are you open now, do you do this service, how do I book. Those questions arrive at all hours, and the answer usually already exists — in a price list, a policy document, or the owner’s head.

OMAI is the place you write those answers down once. After that the assistant handles the repetitive questions at any hour, and your team spends its time on the conversations that actually need a person — which is also where it hands over automatically.

What you end up with

A working OMAI account is five things. Each one has its own screen in the dashboard sidebar.

The two languages the assistant works in

The assistant writes in Hebrew and in English. Which one it uses is decided per message, and you control the rule with Assistant reply language on the Assistant Settings screen.

  • Automatic — match the customer (the default): the assistant looks at the letters in the customer’s message. Hebrew letters mean a Hebrew reply, Latin letters mean an English reply.
  • Hebrew or English: every reply is written in that language, whatever the customer wrote in.
  • A message that mixes both scripts, or is in a language written in neither, falls back to your organization’s main language.

Because the choice is made from the letters, a message written in another Latin-script language — Spanish, French, Russian in transliteration — is treated as English. There is no third language pack. How the language is chosen, in detail covers the edge cases.

Who it suits

  • Businesses whose customers already message them on WhatsApp, and who keep answering the same questions about prices, availability and opening hours.
  • Businesses serving customers who write in Hebrew, in English, or in both.
  • Teams small enough to work from one shared inbox — plans include 2, 5 or 15 team members.
  • Businesses whose answers can be written down: a service list, a price list, a cancellation policy, a set of FAQs.
  • Businesses that want messages answered in the evening, at the weekend and on holidays, when nobody is at the desk.

Who it does not suit

  • Businesses that need phone calls. There is no dialler, no call routing and no SMS inbox — the connected number is used for WhatsApp messaging.
  • Businesses whose customers write mainly in a language other than Hebrew or English.
  • Practices built on regulated advice. Medical, legal, financial and emergency wording is handed to a person on purpose, so an assistant on that kind of number would hand over constantly instead of answering.
  • Anyone who needs every reply to use exact approved wording. The assistant generates each reply; it does not read from a script.
  • Businesses whose number must stay an ordinary personal WhatsApp account. A connected number is a business number on Meta’s platform, and Meta decides which numbers are eligible.

What OMAI is not

  • Not a chatbot builder. There are no flows, decision trees or button menus to draw. You describe your business in plain language and the assistant composes each reply itself.
  • Not a CRM. There is no pipeline and no deal stages. A lead exists when a signed-in person tags a conversation as one — nothing is scored or collected on its own.
  • Not a phone system. Your customers cannot call the assistant. There is no voicemail, no call routing and no voice menu.
  • Not a bulk-messaging tool. OMAI is built around answering people who message you. Outside WhatsApp’s 24-hour reply window your team can only send message templates that Meta has approved, and Meta charges for messages separately.

What it costs, in one paragraph

You pay a monthly plan price, and each plan includes a number of AI answers, a number of team members and an amount of knowledge storage. One AI answer is one reply the assistant sends to a customer; inbound messages, replies typed by your team and test-panel messages are not counted as answers. The full table is in Plans and what each one includes.

Where to go next

If you want the mechanics — what happens between the customer pressing send and the reply arriving — read How your assistant answers a customer. If you want to know what this looks like from the other side of the conversation, read What your customers experience. If you are ready to set it up, start with Create your account.

Do my customers need to install anything?

No. They keep writing to the same business number, from the WhatsApp app they already have installed.

Can I keep using WhatsApp on my phone for the same number?

Sometimes. Meta decides after its connection window whether your number can keep running in the WhatsApp Business app alongside OMAI, and several WhatsApp features stop working on a connected number. See Keeping the number on your phone.

Does the assistant answer every message?

No. It stays silent when a person has taken the conversation over, when it has been paused for that conversation, when more than 24 hours have passed since the customer’s last message, and in several other cases listed in How your assistant answers a customer.

Who on my team can change what?

Owners and admins configure the assistant, the knowledge base and the WhatsApp connection. Agents work in the inbox: reply, pause the assistant for a conversation, take a conversation over. See Roles and what each one can do.
