The referral programme

How the OMAI referral programme works: who can hold a link, how a referral is attributed to you, and where you follow its status. The programme is not switched on for accounts at the moment.

Who
Anyone on the account who can see billing
Plan
Active paid subscription on a plan the programme covers
Role
Owner or Admin to create the link; billing access to view the Referrals page

Before you start

  • The referral programme switched on for your account
  • An active paid subscription — a trial does not qualify

The referral programme rewards you for introducing another business to OMAI. You get a permanent link, you share it, and when a business that arrived through it becomes a paying customer, one free month is added to your own subscription. The dashboard section is called Referrals, and the product describes it as: “Share OMAI with another business — when they become a paying customer, you get a free month.”

The Growth Center, which reports on referral activity in more depth, is not switched on either.

What the programme gives you

  • One free month for each referred business that becomes a paying customer on a plan the programme covers.
  • The month lands on your subscription: your paid period end and your next charge date both move forward by one calendar month.
  • A permanent link. One code per organisation, issued once, and it stays yours through plan changes.
  • A status trail — every referral, its stage and its outcome — on the Referrals page.

Rewards are not granted the moment someone signs up. A background job re-checks every open referral against your account records roughly once an hour, and grants the month only when every requirement holds. How rewards work covers that sequence in full.

Who can take part

Two things decide it: your subscription must be active and paying, and your plan must be one the programme covers. Which plans qualify is a setting OMAI controls; the shipped setting covers Starter and Growth, and does not include Pro or Custom. A trial is not an active paid subscription, so a trial account cannot hold a link or earn a month.

What the Referrals page shows in each state

Roles follow billing access. Everyone who can see billing — Viewer, Agent, Admin and Owner — can open the Referrals page. Only an Owner or an Admin sees the Create my link button, because issuing the code is a billing change. See Roles and permissions.

  1. Step 1 Open Referrals in the dashboard sidebar.

    • If the entry is missing, either the programme is switched off for accounts or your role has no billing access.

You should see: The Referrals page opens with the heading Referrals.

  2. Step 2 On the Get your referral link card, choose Create my link.

    • The button only renders for Owners and Admins. If you do not see it, ask an Owner or Admin to create the link once — after that, everyone with billing access can copy it.

You should see: A code of 8 characters is generated and your link appears under Your referral link, next to a QR code panel.

  3. Step 3 Select Copy to put the full link on your clipboard.

    • If the browser blocks clipboard access you get “Copying was blocked by the browser — select the link text and copy it manually.” The field is selectable, so copying by hand works.

You should see: The button changes to Link copied to clipboard for a couple of seconds.

Sharing the link

The field on screen shows exactly what Copy puts on your clipboard, including the short tag that records which channel the link travelled through. Each sharing button adds its own tag, so a link shared to WhatsApp and the same link posted on LinkedIn are told apart when a visit is recorded.

  • Copy — the whole link, ready to paste anywhere.
  • Share… — the phone or browser share sheet. It only appears when your browser offers one, and it shares the invitation text.
  • Six channel buttons: WhatsApp, Email, LinkedIn, Facebook, X and Telegram. All six are always shown; their order changes between touch and pointer devices.
  • QR code — printed or shown on screen, scanning it opens your link. Download SVG saves it. If it cannot be generated you see one sentence saying so, and the link above still works.

How a referral is attributed to you

Opening your link records a visit, then sends the visitor to an invitation page that explains OMAI and leads to the signup form. Two carriers hold the attribution from there: a signed parameter in the address, and a cookie that lasts 30 days from the click. Whichever is present when the account is created decides the referral, and the most recent click wins.

  • The referral is written when the organisation is created — not before, and never afterwards.
  • An organisation can be referred once. There is no way to attach an existing account to a link later.
  • Only a real page visit attributes. A link embedded so that it loads in the background — inside an image tag, for example — is ignored.
  • A visitor who signs up more than 30 days after the click, in a different browser, or after clearing cookies, signs up unattributed.
  • A broken, unknown or disabled code never shows the visitor an error. They simply land on the signup page with no referral attached.

Where you follow the status

Everything is on the Referrals page, and every figure there is read from the same records the reward engine uses — there is no second set of books that could disagree.

  • Four statistics: Link visits (“Landing counts, not unique people”), Signups, Free months earned, and then either Estimated savings — free months multiplied by your current plan price — or In progress, the count of rewards still being worked through, whenever a savings figure cannot be produced.
  • Your referral funnel, shown once your link has at least one visit: Link visits, Accounts created, Paid subscriptions, Rewards in progress, Rewards approved, Free months applied.
  • Reward history — up to 50 rows, newest first, with the columns Referred, Status, Months and Applied.
  • Recent activity — up to 25 entries, each a stage and a date, such as “A referred business connected WhatsApp”.
  • Ambassador levels and achievements, which count approved referrals only. Pending activity never advances a level.
Does my referral link ever expire?

No. The code is issued once per organisation and stays valid while the organisation exists. It survives plan changes. Only the reward depends on your subscription being active and paying.

Can I have more than one link?

No. One code exists per organisation. Anyone on the account with billing access shares the same link.

The business I invited already had an OMAI account. Does that count?

No. Attribution is written when an organisation is created, so an account that already exists cannot be attached to a referral link.

Is this the same as the partner programme?

No. Referrals reward customers with free months. The partner programme is a separate arrangement, with its own agreement and its own commission model.
