Renewal, cancellation and limits
Living with a number rented from OMAI: how the monthly renewal is billed, how to release a number and what that costs you, what happens when a payment fails or a plan is cancelled, and how many numbers each plan allows.

Before you start
- At least one number bought through OMAI
A number rented from OMAI is a monthly add-on to your subscription. It renews with the plan, on the same card, until you release it. This article covers what that costs, how to stop it, and what happens to the number when things go wrong.
Where your numbers appear
Two screens show them, for two different purposes. Dashboard → WhatsApp Connection shows each number as a connection card, with its status and the Refresh status and Remove buttons. Dashboard → Billing shows the money side: an Add-ons section listing one row per number, followed by a line that adds your plan and your add-ons into a monthly total.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Pending payment | The order exists but the first month has not settled yet. No number is working under it. |
| Active | The number is paid for. Paid through shows the date the current month runs to. |
| Canceled | The rental has ended. The line has been released and there is nothing further to pay. |
How renewal works
The number is not billed separately. When your subscription renews, the number is added as a line to that same monthly charge, at the price it was bought at. The billing page shows the arithmetic: your plan, plus add-ons, equals the monthly total.
- The price is frozen at purchase. If OMAI changes the catalog price for that country later, numbers already rented keep the price they were sold at.
- Buying a number within a week of your plan’s renewal date covers the following period too, so nobody is charged twice for the same number inside a few days.
- Charges are not prorated. A number released partway through a paid month is not refunded for the remainder, and a number released after the monthly charge has been prepared is still billed for that period.
- Meta’s messaging fees for WhatsApp conversations are billed by Meta and never appear on this line.
Releasing a number
There is no separate cancel button for the add-on. Releasing the number is the cancellation: you disconnect it on the WhatsApp screen, and the billing side follows automatically.
Step 1 Open Dashboard → WhatsApp Connection and find the card for the number.
You should see: The card shows the number, its status, Refresh status and Remove.
Step 2 Choose Remove.
- Read that sentence before confirming — it is the only warning you get.
You should see: The Disconnect this number? dialog opens. For a rented number it adds a sentence about what releasing costs you.
Step 3 Choose Disconnect.
- Your conversations, contacts and settings are kept. Only the number goes.
- If the release does not complete, the add-on may stay listed. Refresh the billing page, and write to us if it is still there the next day.
You should see: The line is released back to the carrier, the add-on is cancelled, and the connection disappears from the list.
If a payment fails
A failed renewal does not take your numbers away immediately. They keep working while the account is in arrears, which gives you time to fix the card. That grace is finite.
- While the account is overdue, the numbers stay connected and the assistant keeps answering, subject to your plan’s other limits.
- After 14 days unpaid, rented numbers are released automatically and their add-ons are cancelled. The lines go back to the pool and cannot be recovered.
- You cannot buy another number while a payment is outstanding — the wizard shows There’s a payment to settle first.
- Fix the card on the billing page. Failed payments explains the sequence and what each state means.
If you cancel your plan
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, not on the day you ask. Your rented numbers keep working until that boundary. When the subscription actually ends, the add-ons are cancelled and the lines are released, in the same way as a manual release — with no refund for the part of the month that is left.
A scheduled cancellation also blocks new purchases: the wizard shows Buying a number requires an active subscription while a cancellation is pending, because a subscription on its way out must not take on new recurring charges.
The limits that apply
| Limit | Starter | Growth | Pro |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rented numbers at once | 1 | 1 | 3 |
| New number orders per day | 5 | 5 | 5 |
| Purchase attempts per hour | 5 | 5 | 5 |
Custom agreements are quoted per contract and are not bought through the wizard. If you need more numbers than Pro allows, talk to us rather than buying repeatedly and hitting the limit.
Before you close the account
Release every rented number before you request account deletion. Deleting an organization does not release its rented lines on its own, so a line left behind can keep costing money after you believe you are finished. Releasing takes a few seconds per number and is the same Remove flow described above.
Once every number is released and the add-ons show Canceled, follow Closing your account. Invoices already issued are kept for the period the law requires, whatever else is deleted.
Can I pause a number instead of releasing it?
No. The rental is either active and billed, or released and gone. If you only want the assistant to stop replying while you keep the number, see Pausing and resuming the assistant.
I released a number by mistake. Can I get it back?
Not reliably. The line goes back to the carrier’s general pool immediately and may already be gone. You can buy a new number, but not that one.
Will I be refunded for the rest of the month?
No. A user-initiated release forfeits the remainder of the month already paid for. The one case that is refunded automatically is a purchase that failed after the card was charged.
Does the number count against my limit while it is still being activated?
Yes. The slot is taken the moment the line is bought. If a purchase stalled halfway, release it to free the slot or ask us to clear it.
